The role you’ll contribute:

Provide genetic counseling for individuals/families at risk for hereditary cancer syndromes because of their family or personal cancer and medical history, environmental exposures, ethnic background or other factors. Work directly with the patient to provide assessment, counseling, follow-up, and referral to community resources as necessary. Provide needed documentation for patient and physicians. Provides educational information/experiences for students and health care professionals. Serve as primary liaison between patients, physicians, and other health providers, as well as between clinical genetic services and other departments. Support the development of the Genetic Counseling Program. Work in collaboration with laboratory services to coordinate necessary services. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Provide on-site genetic counseling for individuals and families in accordance with National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) genetic/familial high-risk assessment guidelines and risk reduction guidelines.

  • Continually monitor the AHCI Genetic Counseling Program with support from AHCI Administration and AHCI Medical Director.

  • Continue to establish a Genetics Counseling Program presence; further develop a referral base.

  • Refer client to appropriate support resources.

  • Assist Genetic Counselor Manager in tracking and monitoring program progress/activity.

  • Pursue on an ongoing basis funding sources for underserved patients.

  • Remain current with NCCN guidelines related to cancer genetic counseling and testing.

  • Develop working relationships to maximize program’s effectiveness and facilitate problem resolution across departmental, campus and physician/provider line.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Knowledge of genetic counseling information and assessing the need to provide education.

· Ability of collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plans.

· Knowledge of federal, state and municipal laws, regulations and standards that may impact the delivery of services for genetics.

· Leadership and facilitation skills; ability to interact appropriately with managers/ departments to facilitate process development and quality improvement

· Strong organizational, communication, and customer-relations skills, ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations

· Skilled in providing age-appropriate cancer genetic counseling and education

· Skilled and comfortable in discussing outcomes of genetic testing

· Flexibility in prioritization; ability to multitask; critical thinking/problem solving skills

· Self-motivated and able to work independently

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

· Master of Science Degree in Genetic Counseling or Human genetics (or equivalent)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED :

· 3-5 years’ experience in cancer genetic counseling

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED :

· Board eligible with Temporary Licensure in the State of FL (preferred); OR

· Board Certified by American Board of Genetic Counseling with full licensure in the State of FL for Genetic Counseling prior to expiration of temporary licensure.
