NBC Universal Horticulture Event Specialist in Orlando, Florida

JOB SUMMARY:

Must be able to meet the minimum requirements of the Horticulturist job description. Be able to create plant displays and themes for special events. Know different color pallets and themes. Be able to differentiate between temperate and tropical plants. Understand and follow designers or event managers direction for specific plant displays. Decorate interiors with plants and flowers, enhancing sets to a themed environment, stage set ups and sign portals. Responsible for creating foliage set-ups within a giving timeframe. Maintain the plant display to a high standard, by detailing or replacing them. The Horticulture Event Specialist will also perform other Horticulture tasks as needed including maintenance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide foliage and floral displays, real or artificial that highlight any environment to theme expectations, Responsible for concealing ‘Greening Out’ unwanted areas or views of sets. Will work with Horticulture Supervisor, Art Director, or Event Manager for set designs.

  • Daily maintenance of set plant materials: Detailing, watering and replacements as necessary to maintain set themed environments. Identify the need for and provide supplemental water with manual operation of automatic irrigation zones and hand watering.

  • Transporting plant material. Loading and unloading it into vehicles.

  • Responsible for trimming/pruning shrubs, ground covers, vines, Palms and some trees with handheld tools and 2-cycle equipment. Will perform removals, installations, and maintenance of plant material in beds, containers and manual weeding. Performs equipment maintenance as required.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED preferred.

  • Successful completion horticulture program at Valencia Community College or similar curriculum preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years landscape maintenance experience, preferably in an upscale commercial, residential or resort environment required;

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License Required.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Have the ability to work quickly in high stress situations for productions shoots, location changes and client needs. Transport plant material to different locations during the work day. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with their clients as well as their leaders. Able to work different schedules during the week, including overnights and weekends. Can work alone or with a team member to get an install completed. Have good time management when performing daily routine tasks.
