Job Description:

The ILS Sr. Engineering Manager is responsible for delivering the technical, cost and schedule performance for all engineering content within the ILS Division, focusing on laser range finder and target designator products. This person provides strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the division engineering policies, objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals. They would be responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the division’s strategic goals and operational plans. The Sr. Engineering Manager is also responsible for the overall organizational health of the engineering workforce and for the recruitment, retention, and development of top talent.

The Sr. Engineering Manager’s primary responsibility is to lead a cross-functional engineering team to cultivate innovative product solutions, advance critical technology enablers, and execute product development projects that serve the markets of the Electro Optic Sector. The Sr. Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring technical, cost and schedule execution of the Engineering content of programs. The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successful program deliveries of customer needs. A key part of this role is to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and ensure programs are smoothly transitioned to production and deployment phases. The Sr. Engineering Manager must be able to interact with Sector peers, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near- and long-term objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Build, lead and manage a 25 person cross-functional engineering organization, dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team and division product roadmaps. Staff currently reside in two geographic locations (Orlando, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina).

  • Technical, cost and schedule accountability for technical project execution, inclusive or programs, pursuits, and Internal Research and Development (IRAD).

  • Management of engineering staffing demand, allocation of resources and posting of requisitions to successfully support the division.

  • Work with the Engineering Leadership Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address identified skills gaps. Lead and mentor the engineering leadership team to continue to develop strong technical leaders.

  • Planning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition, across all markets to meet division goals and objectives.

  • Manage Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio and develop and maintain product technology roadmap

  • Manage Engineering organization budgets.

  • Champion the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

  • Decision maker for high level / high impact engineering technical issues.

  • Working in conjunction with the Sector leadership, co-develop the organization’s growth and product strategy.

  • Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the Engineering organization.

  • Inspire employee motivation, performance, and commitment. Oversees staffing plans and review work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding.

  • Represent engineering organization with major customers, stakeholders, and leadership.

  • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar with 12 years of related experience; A Master’s degree in Engineering or similar with 10 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

  • 10+ years of applicable experience in a product development role; DoD experience a must, with 10 years experience leading cross functional teams

  • 6+ years experience leading engineering organizations that are geographically diverse

  • Must have an active US DoD Secret Security Clearance, which requires US Citizenship

  • Relevant DoD experience in laser range finder and target designator products including development, integration, production, and sustainment

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Master’s of Business Administration is highly desired

  • Willing and able to work extended hours including evenings and weekends when necessary to meet customer commitments.

  • Periodic travel up to 25% required

  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to work in a small organization with fast-paced environment.
