State Hospital North in Orofino currently has openings for a Psychiatric Treatment Coordinator - Safety Team Assisted Response (STAR Team), which is part of the clinical team. The STAR Team is a specialized behavioral response team designed specifically for de-escalation of patient behavior to ensure hospital wide safety and security. If you enjoy building relationships with individuals to help them deescalate when they are upset, this is the position for you. The STAR Team's members take the lead in Non-Violent Crisis Interventions and are expected to be highly proficient at providing supportive patient contact, directive, both non-restrictive and restrictive interventions, and reestablishing therapeutic rapport following each of these intervention levels. Interactions require a team approach in de-escalating patients using restrictive intervention and STAR Team members are seen as hospital experts in the use of Crisis Prevention Institute's Non-Violent Crisis Interventions.

  EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Willingness to have daily intensive contact with psychiatric patients.

• Assess and intervene, using non-restrictive and restrictive interventions, as appropriate, with mentally ill patients.

• Model and perform advanced skills in crisis de-escalation.

• Participate as a treatment team member and coordinate approved treatment with other teams.

• Assist and/or support unsteady ambulatory adults of varying weights.

• Role model and teach appropriate job skills to other employees.

• Intervene in crisis or potentially harmful situations by using specific early intervention techniques and or physical holding and restraint skills.

• Assess for potential safety and security threats.

• Provide transport of patients to off site medical consults and other appointments.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. • This position requires a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate or higher (LPN, RN).

• Good knowledge of therapeutic techniques used to treat mentally ill patients.Typically gained by successful completion of 1-3 college level courses (300 or 400 level) in the areas of psychology, social work, counseling, human behaviorANDone year of experience in the mental health field utilizing therapeutic techniques in treating mentally ill patients. Experience must be in a controlled setting where you were responsible for implementing formal or prescribed therapeutic programs for others OR at least two years experience as described above.

• Good knowledge of common mental illnesses and symptoms.Typically gained by successful completion of 1-3 college level courses (300 or 400 level) in the areas of psychology, social work, counseling or human behaviorORat least one year experience working in the mental health field in a position which required a good knowledge level of common mental illnesses, symptoms, and appropriate terminology as predominate responsibility of the job.

• Good knowledge of civil and legal rights of institutionalized persons.Typically gained by at least three months experience working at the professional or paraprofessional level with institutional patients. Practicum, field work or internship experience may qualifyORthrough a college course of one, 4-6 hour seminar, workshop or program dealing with the civil and legal rights of institutionalized patients.

• Experience implementing treatment plans.Typically gained by at least two years experience working in a position in the mental health field which required implementing treatment plans. This experience would include identifying and describing behavior, therapeutic record keeping and making written documentation, providing input to the treatment team when the plan is being developed, helping coordinate service delivery and evaluating the effectiveness of the plan.

• Experience leading therapeutic activity groups.Typically gained by at least two years experience working in a position in the mental health field which required leading or assisting a therapeutic activity group as a regular part of your job responsibilities (1-2 times per month)ORby a six-month supervised practicum, internship or field work experience specific to working with therapeutic activity groups in the mental health field.
