Responsibilities
The COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) assists optometric and ophthalmic providers with patient care, testing and treatment by assessing patient history and needs, and administering prescribed tests. Performs a variety of department specific technical tests. Documents patient record and educates patient as needed.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Two years work experience in a healthcare setting

Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures

Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of proper use of equipment and procedures

Fine motor coordination
Hand / eye coordination
Knowledge of Goldman Tonometer
Demonstrated competence in ophthalmic skills
Basic understanding of ocular anatomy
Medication administration knowledge and competence
Knowledge of documentation requirements
Evaluation skills
Ability to competently use equipment in Ophthalmology Clinic.
Must be willing to travel to and work at various sites
Preferred: Previous clinical work experience in Ophthalmology and/or Optometry
Computer experience and skills helpful. Must be willing to travel to and work at various sites and may be scheduled for hours after 5:00 PM
May be required to work weekends or overtime.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance. Certification by the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
