Position Description

Primary Purpose: Responsibilities include assisting Manager Ops Terminal with all aspects of bulk handling operations and maintenance; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems and responsible for safe and efficient movement of bulk cargoes operations.

Primary Duties:

  • Supervise the safe, efficient and quality-conscious unloading and loading of bulk commodities from vessels and rail cars in to storage facilities, and from storage facilities in to vessels and trucks.

  • Observe operations to ensure work being performed consistently meets or exceeds the expectations and procedures established by Kinder Morgan for safe and efficient operations.

  • Assign daily job tasks in all areas of operations of the terminals, including cleaning, routine inspections, truck loading, truck weighing, vessel loading and unloading, rail car offloading, manual labor tasks, and other duties as needed.

  • Lead daily Safety Talks, required training sessions, and interpret company policies to workers.

  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.

  • Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions and general maintenance of machinery and equipment.

  • Report and participate in the investigation of all incidents and near misses.

  • Requisition and purchase material in compliance with Kinder Morgan’s purchase order policy.

  • Schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage for operations.

  • Maintain payroll and overtime documentation.

    Position Requirements

Minimum requirements: Education:

  • High School diploma.

    Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Must possess understanding of bulk handling operations/equipment.

  • Ability to take initiative and lead subordinates to accomplish defined goals in a fast paced environment.

  • Must be able to respond to emergencies when necessary.

  • Must be able to make informed decisions independently and accurately under pressure.

  • Must be able to work various hours outside of scheduled shift to meet the demands of the business.

  • Must be able to split time between industrial and office environments during daily operations.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Office Suite general products.

  • Must possess the ability to learn Maintenance Management Software for the tracking of industrial equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit and apply those needs to decisions made in the field.

    Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

  • Must successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) as required by the Transportation Security Administration at the start of employment.

  • Mandatory drug screen and background check upon hire.

    Physical demands:

  • Requires work in all types of weather conditions as well as working around machinery and on marine vessels.

  • While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to stand, walk, sit, ascend/descend stairs/ladders; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working conditions:

  • Position is typically assigned a daytime schedule when vessels operations are not underway but will be primarily night shift during vessel operations.

  • Must be available for 24 hour call-in.

  • Tasks are performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

  • Requires working at heights in excess of 80 feet.

  • Requires working in and around industrial equipment, vessels, trucks, railcars and water.

  • Primarily assigned to Kinder Morgan Port Manatee, but may occasionally be assigned to other company facilities within a 50 mile radius of the Tampa Bay Area.

    Other responsibilities:

  • This position may perform other duties as assigned.
