POSITION SUMMARY: The Endoscopy Technician supports the gastroenterologist and other members of the endoscopy team to facilitate patient care flow within the department. Primarily the task and responsibilities are related to the procedure rooms, which include maintenance and cleaning of endoscopes and related equipment, ensure proper handling of specimens, and ordering and maintaining appropriate par levels of Endoscopy supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The Endo technician utilizes initiative, demonstrates flexibility and strives to maintain a steady level of productivity. The experienced Endo Tech may participate in the orientation and mentoring of new staff members. The Endoscopy department is staffed from 0630 to 1500 Monday through Friday, with on call requirements to cover 24 hour service.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill experience and ability necessary to perform this job.

ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Patient and family support

  • Patient safety-identification, fall prevention, skin and wound program

  • Transports, positions and drapes patients for procedures

  • Chain of Command

  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required

  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner

  • Sets up computer charting for physicians daily

  • Airway Management

  • Mock Code

  • GI Bleed Protocol-Assist with Gold probe, Argon, Blackmore Tube insertion

  • Endoscopy equipment cleaning and maintenance

  • Core Measures

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • BLS certificate

  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience in a patient care area or Endoscopy preferred
