THE POSITION

Bring your interests and skillset to the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA)! This Mechanical Engineer 2 position works in the Division of Engineering and Architecture in designing, reviewing design, and managing construction projects for the DMVA.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Duties include utilizing Automatic Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD) to design mechanical systems to ensure conformance with mechanical engineering standards and various guidelines, regulations, and codes. The design and review work focuses on areas such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; refrigeration, plumbing; air, fuel, hydronic, and geothermal systems; fire protection; and water treatment. You also review c omplete mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection designs from hired professionals for DMVA facilities.
Other duties include investigating to determine the condition of mechanical systems and making recommendations for repair or replacement, analyzing mechanical needs through calculations, and determining the types of mechanical systems most suitable to meet the requirements of construction within the prescribed budget constraints. In addition, you review materials and shop drawing submittals from contractors and vendors.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday, with 45-minute lunch.
May change based on operational needs.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 2 days a week. You telework Monday and Friday, and are in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This schedule is subject to operational requirements. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Annville.
Travel and overtime as needed.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Mechanical Engineer 1; or
Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; or
Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License that is not currently under suspension.
Other Requirements:
You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
