THE POSITION

This position performs a variety of professional medical and administrative duties in the selection of applicants, determinations for limited duty and fitness for duty, and development of medical related Pennsylvania State Police protocols and policies. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a State Police Medical Officer, you evaluate incumbent trainees to diagnose illnesses and injuries. You prescribe and direct appropriate medical care and treatment and oversee rehabilitation for injured or ill trainees or refer individuals to medical specialists. You also review medical records of employment candidates, assess each individual’s ability to perform the requirements of a particular position, and make recommendations relative to a candidate’s medical appropriateness for appointment or necessary medical follow-up. In addition, you examine all work-related disability and Heart and Lung Act claims by evaluating injury reports, medical reports, and job requirements. You recommend independent medical examinations and communicate with physicians and specialists regarding examination objectives and results and provide recommendations and coordinating parallel care, if indicated.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $191,082.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved U.S. residency training program in the medical specialty of family practice, internal medicine, or occupational medicine; three years of professional medical experience; and Board Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Boards of Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Occupational Medicine .

Special Requirements:

  • All candidates must possess a current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

  • All candidates must possess a current Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescribing scheduled medication.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • All candidates must possess a current Federal Aviation Administration certification as an Aviation Medical Examiner within one year of appointment.

Other Requirements:
