Taylor County Board Of County Commissioners Building and Planning Technician in Perry, Florida
SUMMARY
:
This position is responsible for work in the administration and enforcement of County codes and ordinances relating to comprehensive plan and building codes. Reports directly to the Building Official.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform clerical and administrative duties.
- Sort and file alphabetically, numerically, or by other established classifications.
- Maintain computer database for Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement files.
- Make routine mathematical calculations.
- Perform routine tabulating of data.
- Check, confirm, and maintain records.
- Issue building permits and schedule inspections.
- Flood zone determinations.
- Receptionist duties (greet public, answer and direct telephone calls appropriately, assist with inquiries.)
- Assist other employees in general office work.
- Review applications for rezoning, exceptions and/or variances.
- Issue Street addresses.
- Oversee the Community Rating System (CRS) review and submittals.
- Determine compliance with zoning code and flood control ordinances.
- Assist investigation into alleged code violations.
- Prepare and give testimony in courtroom proceedings.
- Represent the County Planning and Zoning Department at meetings.
- Assist in preparing the Countys comprehensive growth plan, and update County zoning codes as required.
- Meet with department heads, commissioners and the public to discuss and resolve issues relating to Building, Planning and Code Enforcement.
- Perform related work as required.
- THIS POSITION IS CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL DURING A DECLARED STATE OF EMERGENCY.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an AA degree with course work in administration, management, growth management or planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed departmental procedures.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
- Ability to receive public with considerable poise, tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Knowledge of County zoning codes, flood control ordinance, subdivision ordinances, and comprehensive growth plans, building codes, and beverage laws.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, plats and technical material relating to building, zoning, and flood control.
