General Purpose:
SEMO Tank (a wholly owned subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America) sells, leases, and repairs tank trailers and offers a vast inventory of related parts for resale. The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for procuring the parts, materials, and supplies for all business segments and locations of SEMO and maintaining appropriate levels of stock. They must negotiate with suppliers for best possible cost, quality, and availability while monitoring supply chain tendencies to ensure timely receipt of products and competitive pricing.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and issue purchase orders of parts, materials, and supplies for stock and special orders
Analyze ERP system generated data to assist with buying decisions
Review and approve purchase order requests from affiliate locations
Review and approve for payment non-inventory related purchases
Assist all SEMO locations with purchasing needs and transfer requests
Procure nonstandard items by research and negotiation
Evaluate and interview potential new suppliers and negotiate pricing
Obtain, review, and negotiate quotes from suppliers on raw materials with variable pricing/availability and communicate findings with the sales team and service managers to procure the best solution
Determine best methods of shipment
Review open purchase orders for updated delivery schedules and communicate findings to sales and service team members when necessary
Consolidate purchase orders to minimize freight costs
Partner with the Parts Manager to implement procurement related growth and cost savings strategies
Maintain records such as tool inventory lists, mill test reports, and certifications for material
Create build orders for items fabricated in-house
Work in conjunction with SEMO’s Inventory Specialist to maintain accurate and sufficient inventory levels
Attend departmental training, such as safety and equipment training
Wear required PPE and observe health, safety, and environmental policies
Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment

Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Prior purchasing experience preferred
Certification and/or license – N/A
