Job Title: Product Improvement Engineer

Salary: £38,850 + per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough

Job Summary

Working within the Engine Systems Team, you will have accountability for the identification and resolution of product problems and issues on diesel engine control systems and associate electrical / electronic components. Using 6 Sigma methodologies and tools, you will form, participate and lead Teams of functional experts to develop, validate and implement product improvements and enhancements across both the hardware and software used within the Engine Electronic Control System

What You Will Do

This developmental position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to growth their technical capability and lead cross functional, global Teams in the delivery of Electrical, Electronic and Control Systems product improvement projects on Diesel Engines, that ultimately support our client and customer’s business needs.. This role has accountability for the end-to-end delivery of hardware and software improvements and enhancements, right from issue identification through to solution implementation.

Typical project activities will include:

  • Conducting reliability and statistical analysis of current products

  • Monitoring performance against targets and identifying improvement opportunities

  • Prioritising of issues and projects

  • Carry out component Failure Analysis activities, and working with suppliers and internal customers, develop mitigation plans for product issues.

  • When required form high performing Teams and lead the Teams to implement robust solutions on complex Product Improvement projects

  • Supporting Caterpillar assembly facilities and addressing quality issues affecting production and internal customers

  • Regular reporting of project status and progress to both internal and external Stakeholders.

What You Have

Technical Excellence

  • A good technical background. Top candidates will have a good technical degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering.

Analytical Thinking

  • Logical thinking, with statistical and analytical analysis skills.

Process Knowledge

  • Knowledge of 6 Sigma DMAIC principles, with top candidates having demonstrable skills and competencies in this functional area from a previous job role.

  • The ability to plan, prioritise and organise, thus facilitating the successfully management and execution of a number of projects at one time.

  • Continuous Improvement : the desire to continually evolve and grow personal skills, implement process improvements and enhance products.

Effective Communication

  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Teamwork: Knowledge of the necessity and value of teamwork; the ability to work cooperatively towards shared goals and being supportive of others at all levels.
