Weyerhaeuser Regional Project Engineer in Philadelphia, Mississippi
Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Senior Project Manager/Engineer to be a part of our Southern Lumber Engineering Team. The Senior Project Manager/Engineer is instrumental in advising area leaders in technology enhancements needed to improve operating performance and supporting process reliability improvement and strategies. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Lumber Engineering Leader and would be a regional resource, traveling to our Gulf South lumber mills as needed and required. Candidates should reside in the Southern United States, preferably in Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama.
*Your Impact *- As a Senior Project Manager/Engineer, you will work closely with mill leadership teams, technical team members, and external contractors and vendors to implement capital and pool projects safely and efficiently within budgetary guidelines. Additionally, you will lead and facilitate the capital execution process for the area while organizing and documenting all required records, serving as a central process facilitator. You will be working in a true team environment with a constant slate of projects being implemented at multiple locations. To thrive in this role, you will possess excellent organizational skills to manage daily priorities, and exceptional leadership skills for successful capital and pool project installations.
*In this role, your essential functions will be to: *
- Manage the region's capital improvement plan and drive deadlines.
- Work with mill teams to develop scope, estimates, and justification for projects.
- Is the key contact for conveying information on the project to business leadership
- Involved in all key project decision making
- Primary contact with the engineering teams of the vendors and engineering consultants
- Lead the Site Steering Team – development and issuance of agendas, project updates and meeting minutes, provide input on necessary decisions
- Participate in reliable process design, help to get the details right
- Ensure development and progress on delivery of permitting, engineering, equipment, and labor as it impacts the project schedule
- Ensure adherence to the permits during all aspects of construction
- Oversee and manage the project safety, project schedule, budget, and project quality
- Organize and develop the project construction and safety team – project updates and meetings
- Work with the construction manager to ensure project schedule and quality
- Work with the safety manager to ensure project and site safety
- Performs the roles and responsibilities of construction and/or safety manager if none are assigned to the project or acts as a back-up when the construction or safety manager is unavailable
- Responsible for process related to Management of Change and communication
- Insure there are no roadblocks for the construction to execute the project
- Provide monthly reporting of project status
- Keep leadership aware of project activity
- Work with purchasing and accounting for commitments and spending compared to the Gate 3 budget.
- Work with site resources, construction manager, and vendors to coordinate commissioning and startup phase
- Work with procurement manager on purchase order issuance
- Involved in approval of requisitions and validation of invoices for payment to maintain control of spending
- Works with mill on supporting development of LOTO, JSAs, SOPs, PMs
- Works with mill on commissioning and start-up plans and execution
- Work with accounting on capitalization of equipment after starting up
- Schedule and lead Gate 4 meeting.
- Evaluate effectiveness of each capital project and use evaluations to improve the capital process – key learnings and replications
- Support mills with troubleshooting safety and reliability issues
- Help apply engineering principles to mill repair and optimization activities.
- Serve as a resource to identify and implement Operations Excellence initiatives.
- Participate in implementation of manufacturing solutions.
Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis where appropriate.
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, with 5-10 years of progressive project management experience within an industrial setting, preferred lumber manufacturing setting. Or equivalent large capital project management work experience of 15 years.
- Experience with manufacturing methods and continuous improvement processes.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of statistical theory and application.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, MS schedule, and AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated personal commitment to safety.
- Knowledge of safe work practices in an industrial environment, industrial equipment theory and operation, project management, scheduling, and purchasing, contractor management.
- Knowledge of and experience leading process reliability practices.

Our Investment in You: What We Offer
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $126,000 to $189,000 with mid-point of $157,600 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 20% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
