Position Description

Develops, executes, and evaluates programs and outreach initiatives to provide effective public and professional cancer education that promotes the image of Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center. Ensures programs meet accrediting/designation standards for: Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS COC).

Essential Accountabilities

Patient / Customer

  • Under the direction of the director/associate director, community outreach and education work with all Penn Medicine entities and across disciplines (medical, surgical, radiology, pathology, nurse practitioners, nutrition, counseling, rehabilitation and sub-specialties within these groups) as well as corporate supporters, high profile advocacy and outreach foundations /organizations on the overall planning , management, implementation and evaluation of public and professional cancer education programs.

  • Work with director/associate director to develop strategy for priority education and outreach initiatives.

  • Work with director/associate director to develop and implement community engagement plan that will promote permanent relationship(s) that will benefit the collective vision of the community and Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center.

  • Determine goals and objectives for programs by: determining competitive climate in region, identifying target audience for programs, designing marketing and communication plan, developing and managing budgets, implementing plan, evaluating results.

  • Assist, develop and manage the fundraising strategy and plan for educational programs.

  • Assist, develop, manage and track budget for educational programs and community outreach initiatives.

  • Lead multidisciplinary client teams (multidisciplinary physician team, cancer support services, development, marketing, and public relations) to strategize, plan, develop, implement and evaluate outreach initiatives.

  • Analyze and report educational outcomes and program evaluation to determine success and develop future efforts.

  • Ensure that services offered to internal and external stakeholders are supportive, provide value-added service and are cost effective.

  • Supervise event staff and volunteers.

  • Adhere to standards for education set forth by accrediting agencies.

  • Utilize concepts of adult learning in developing program strategy.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with foundations, societies, and other outreach organizations that will enhance the business and educational missions of Penn Medicine ACC.

Operations

  • With director/associate director and cancer disease team leadership (faculty, administrators and support team) strategize and implement cancer outreach plan

  • Serve as liaison to foundation partners and corporate supporters.

  • Manage 8-14 high priority cancer outreach programs per year.

  • Track overall financial management of programs including revenue, budget and preparing financial reports for program partners and grantees.

  • Work with ACC/UPHS leadership and Perelman School of Medicine CME office to monitor execution of programs and assure compliance with ACCME, COC and NCI guidelines.

  • Work with Perelman School of Medicine CME office, foundations, corporate supporters and other health care companies to obtain financial support for programs.

  • Write, assist in compiling grant proposals, including submission, tracking, and follow up of all requests in a timely manner.

  • Prepare timeline for program development and oversee the production and timing of all activities.

  • Communicate and coordinate activities with program participants and coordinate. program materials, reimbursement, special equipment, set-up needs, travel and housing for guest faculty and speakers.

  • Oversee development and coordination of all course materials and documentation required for accrediting bodies (ACCME, NCI, COC).

  • Maintain program statistics and provide required reports.

  • Coordinate participation in community-based health fairs and special events.

  • Coordinate cancer screening and outreach events for high priority cancers.

  • Develop pipeline of volunteers to assist with educational programs.

  • Develop social media plan with internal marketing team to share new content (text, graphics, video and QR codes) to engage with community members and increases educational events awareness.

  • Work with internal marketing, development and PR, along with, outside academic societies, foundations and other organizations to publicize and coordinate communications and social media plan for programs.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

  • And 5+ years patient education or healthcare administration experience (required)

  • Experience supervising program staff and volunteers (preferred)

  • Educational event program implementation and evaluation experience (preferred)
