Honeywell is launching the development of a new family of gas turbine engines that will help shape the future of the aerospace industry. Engine Systems and Component Analysis (ESCA) is a Center of Excellence responsible and accountable for the engineering design, analysis, development, qualification and support of structural and mechanical systems components for all Aerospace power system products. Engine Structures, within ESCA, is responsible for ensuring the mechanical integrity of the structural parts used on gas turbine engines. These responsibilities include the design, development, testing, and field support of static structure components which must meet requirements for life, cost, weight, maintainability, and durability. The engineer must address stress, strength, vibration, heat transfer, deflection, fatigue life, containment, material selection, etc. in evaluating parts. The Engine Structures Group in Phoenix, AZ is seeking to hire a Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer with proven knowledge and expertise in the field of structural analysis using ANSYS finite element analysis software.

Job Duties:

  • Perform design, analysis and validation testing of static structural components for gas turbine engines. Specific components include turboshaft engine components such as: inlets, frames, mounts, compressor stators, shrouds and cases, gas generator and power turbine shrouds, nozzles, tangential on-board injectors, heat shields and baffles.

  • The scope of work includes creation and development of sound design solutions for newly proposed and existing products.

  • Analytical results will be presented in design reviews and with appropriate documentation to meet program deliverables and requirements.

  • Applicant must work effectively with design teams, global support and chief engineers.

  • Responsibilities also include working productivity initiatives to advance the current state of the art and establish standardized processes for criteria, guidelines and practices.

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a mechanical engineering field

  • Minimum of 4 years industry experience performing finite element analysis using ANSYS

We Value:

  • Knowledge of the gas turbine engine industry

  • 3D modeling (CAD) and FEA (ANSYS, etc.) of gas turbine engine static structures and systems

  • Capable of performing complex analyses and hand calculations of engine components and systems

  • Proven understanding and application of solid mechanics, dynamics, fatigue, and finite element analysis

  • Tacit knowledge and experience with topological optimization of static structural components for minimum weight

  • Ability to lead or act as focal point for the activities being performed by multiple engineers on an engine program or module

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required to interact with engineering teams, other disciplines, and the customer

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma tools and applications
