Grants & Contracts Specialist II

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics is seeking a Grants and Contracts Specialist. The incumbent will work as part of a Finance Team along with Faculty and lab staff to manage accurate accounting of post award grants and discretionary funding. They Grants and Contracts Specialist will review and reconcile expenditures and encumbrances to comply with both university policies and sponsor regulations. Duties will include preparing budgets, reviewing and approving requisitions, purchase orders, Concur/Travel expenses, reconciling oneCard charges, updating personnel distributions (SPAR), and processing budget modifications, account activations, and cost transfers. The incumbent will also develop recommendations for resolving account discrepancies and troubleshoot issues. A candidate should be able to work independently to solve problems and comfortable using excel and a variety of university web-based systems. Prior grant or university experience is a plus but not required.

Job Summary

Performs post-award accounting duties for moderately complex grants and contracts. Monitors account activity, performs internal audits, resolves routine issues, and provides policy and procedure interpretation. Prepares routine financial reports and government reports. Recommends operational improvements.

Essential Functions

Physical Effort

The position is sedentary, and the incumbent must be able to sit and work at a computer for most of the day. No heavy lifting or excessive walking is required.
