Laboratory Technician
The University of Pittsburgh, Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a Technician to work with faculty members and undergraduate student laboratory assistants to complete all aspects of preparation for Foundations of Biology Laboratory courses. This will include (but not be limited to): preparation of course materials such as media, reagent aliquots, and sterile supplies; training and overseeing the work of undergraduate laboratory assistants; maintaining laboratory equipment; ordering supplies; and keeping up-to-date records of all purchases. In addition, the Technician will be responsible for trouble-shooting protocols and procedures in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, ecology, and others. The Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences is committed to building a culturally diverse staff.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
The successful candidate will use a computer extensively. They must be capable of oral, written, and electronic communications. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. In addition to a computer, they must be able to use a telephone and other general office equipment including but not limited to fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, printers, etc.
Physical Effort
This position is generally sedentary within an office setting, but the ability to travel around campus is occasionally necessary. Also, must be able to pick-up and carry 25 pounds.
