UPMC Nutritionist - WIC - Pediatrics (Pittsburgh) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Nutritionist - WIC to support their General Academic Pediatrics (GAP) division and Magee Women's Hospital team in Pittsburgh! This position will work at both the Oakland Primary Care Center and Magee Women's Hospital. The Oakland Primary Care Center is a part of General Academic Pediatrics division within University of Pittsburgh Physicians. We currently operate our primary care clinic, newborn clinic, and a walk-in clinic in Oakland to ensure we are meeting any and all patient needs. Our team here consists of 40+ providers, nurses, MA’s, dental services, behavior therapy, WIC, and more. We provide exceptional, holistic, pediatric care for our families and are continuing to grow!

This position will be responsible for conducting nutrition interviews for families, assessing participants for any nutritional risks, providing resources and referrals, maintaining a positive relationship with ACHD WIC staff.

Hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with no evenings, weekends, or holidays!

Responsibilities:

  • Provide initial certification and re-certification of participants.

  • Issue food benefits in accordance with all policies and state and federal regulations.

  • Assess and determine participant's nutritional risk for WIC and prescribe the appropriate food package.

  • Perform hemoglobin testing for WIC participants.

  • Perform anthropometric measurement for WIC participants.

  • Develop and implement the nutrition education component to include continuing updates as necessary to meet federal regulations.

  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants.

  • Assist families in developing healthy eating goals and provide on-going education to support the goals.

  • Develop the nutrition care plan for participants.

  • Assess participant need for use of a WIC breast pump. Issue and instruct participants in the use and cleaning of breast pumps.

  • Maintain participant records in accordance with Agency and Department of Health policies and procedures. Complete on-line documentation of all nutrition education contacts, topics and comments.

  • Prepare and submit required reports.

  • Participate in orientation and performance improvement activities.

  • Perform data entry using the Department of Health Software Data System.

  • Provide referral information to participants for other health & human services programs as indicated by participant need.

  • Provide supervision at designated satellite clinic sites.

  • Maintain and protect participant and Agency confidentiality.

  • Promote personal and co-worker safety during work duties.

  • Represent and participate in Agency professional and community activities as requested.

  • Endeavor to achieve and maintain quality and customer satisfaction in the delivery of services to internal/external customers.

  • Demonstrate support of Agency mission and philosophy in delivery of services.

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in related field required.

Minimum of two years related work experience preferred, consistent with the state requirement. Competency in computer skills in a Windows based environment. Demonstrate ability to perform computer skills in specialized computer application(s) as needed. Access to transportation in the Agency service area with valid Pennsylvania driver's license and auto liability insurance.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
