Description: Summary The Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to work on projects to investigate the role of astrocytic Na+/H+ exchanger-1 and Na+/HCO3- cotransporter 1 in stroke-induced blood-brain barrier damage. This research utilizes the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) stroke model in transgenic mice and pharmacological interventions.

 

Description of Responsibilities The project involves diverse scientific methodologies, encompassing confocal imaging analysis of brain sections, behavioral testing, single-cell transcriptomics studies, and ex vivo ion imaging.

The successful candidate will conduct independent research, including stroke surgery, behavioral assessments, confocal imaging, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed publication. They will also present findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences. Additionally, the candidate will mentor students, receive guidance in research proposal development, and engage in career development activities. Numerous weekly seminar series and Grand Rounds offer further professional development opportunities.

 

Qualifications Candidate must hold an MD or PhD in basic sciences. The candidate should demonstrate an academic record of excellence, independent research, and a strong interest in basic and clinical medical research.
