UPMC Principal Trainer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC is looking for a full-time Principal Trainer to join their team. This role will be remote however at time will require ON-SITE work. We are looking for applicants who have previous clinical experience and can work in a fast-paced environment.

Principal trainers work with the training managers, clinical operations and business operations subject matter experts, and IT application analysts to develop and maintain a comprehensive, integrated training curriculum that ensures users can effectively, efficiently, and compliantly use Epic and corresponding applications to support clinical and business operations at UPMC.

Responsibilities:

· Assumes primary responsibility for training the credentialed trainers, as assigned, by providing guidance, support, and mentorship.

· With training leadership, identifies and provides input, when assigned, in the hiring process for a team of credentialed trainers to assist them and subject matter experts in creating training materials that align with UPMC's goals and cater to the users' needs.

· Attends the outlined Epic education courses and passes certification as required.

· Responsible for managing and updating the training team tasks and project/activity list as outlined in the training team project plan.

· Develops, monitors, and updates a comprehensive, engaging, interactive training plan and curriculum strategy (time, method of delivery) for end users, ensuring they have the necessary skills to utilize Epic effectively and compliantly while maintaining efficient business and clinical operations.

· Creates and maintains all training materials that meet the specific needs of different departments, specialties, and user groups, incorporating best practices and workflows into the training content.

· Manages training program schedule, resource, space, and technical set-up needs. This includes the development of a comprehensive course catalog for the scope of responsibility assigned.

· Monitors and reviews the enrollment, progress, and success of end-user training within assigned scope of responsibility and makes appropriate adjustments, such as administering competency assessments and addressing deficiencies in scores, as needed.

· Assesses users' proficiency.

· Maintains training records/attendance Conducts post-training tasks and activities to support end users and allows for troubleshooting issues and addressing questions.

· Develops different modalities of learning, including video and eLearning modules, as assigned.

· Masters Epic application, third-party application, and UPMC-specific workflows by working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and training leadership to ensure training aligns with system changes and operational and regulatory updates.

· Builds, tests, and maintains the training curriculum and training environment. Delivers ongoing training post-go live.

· Maintains and promotes open, positive, productive communication with inter- and intradepartmental management and staff of both internal and external customers.

· Identifies and escalates concerns of pertinent training-related issues to the integrated training council.

· Provides consultation related to information systems.

· Works with clinical and business operations leadership to develop training policies and requirements that align with UPMC policies and EHR guidelines.

· Serves as a positive role model for individuals in the department and throughout the organization.

· Sets annual goals for personal and professional growth.

· Maintains training procedure documentation.

· Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

Qualifications

· Successful completion of Epic's Principal Trainer Certification in assigned module(s) upon hire or within 90 days of hire is required.

· Clinical or operational experience strongly preferred.

· A bachelor's degree in a clinical or business-related specialty or education is preferred.

· Experience with Epic technology and/or healthcare is strongly desired.

· Capacity to manage multiple competing objectives and to communicate results in clear and unambiguous terms.

· Ability to lead others and clearly communicate the importance of training to all stakeholders in the project.

· Experience with adult education, instructional design, and curriculum delivery.

· Strong organizational and coordination skills.

· Ability to develop and adhere to time schedules to meet project deadlines and sequence activities logically.

· Interpersonal skills at a level to function well in various administrative, management and patient care environments.

· Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals on training projects and within ad-hoc conditions.

· Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and assignments accurately within a set time frame and to function under stressful situations in a calm and rational manner.

· Knowledge of and the ability to use PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to create teaching/learning materials and documentation.

· Excellent knowledge of English grammar and spelling for use in verbal and written communication.

· Attends the outlined Epic education courses and passes certification as required.

· A detailed understanding of workflows and system configuration preferred.

· A strong belief in the value of the Epic is preferred.

· Clinical or operational experience preferred.
