The Position

Provides expert legal support to attorneys in the management of complex patent litigations. Independently identifies and suggests solutions to complex legal issues. Acts as the lead on process improvement initiatives and other key projects.

Relationships

Reports to a designated attorney. Interacts with all attorneys in the Legal Department. Also interacts with individuals in other NNI departments and affiliate companies. Regularly interacts with outside law firms, government agencies, and business entities.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates expertise in one or more relevant areas of law (patents, copyright, trademarks, FDA regulations, privacy, etc.)

  • Evaluates appropriate laws, judicial decisions, and legal arguments that are relevant to job responsibilities, and communicates to relevant stakeholders

  • Identifies, interviews, and coordinates collection of documents from employees, clients, and relevant stakeholders for litigations, government investigations, and subpoenas

  • Oversees production and organization of documents internally and with outside counsel in connection with litigations and investigations; analyzes documents for potential discovery

  • Collaborates with internal and external counsel to develop reports, presentations, and updates regarding developments in key litigations and investigations impacting the company

  • Monitors and reviews government regulations and communicates to team to ensure corporation is aware of new requirements

  • Oversees general corporate matters as necessary

  • Regularly handles highly confidential matters with discretion and judgment

  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations and case law and prepares informative material for general use by the attorneys

  • Reviews and drafts policies and procedures

    Physical Requirements 0-10% overnight travel required

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor 's Degree required; relevant experience may be substituted for degree where appropriate

  • A minimum of 8 years of paralegal experience or other relevant experience required

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance

  • At least 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience preferred

  • Comprehensive understanding of the business and day-to-day operations

  • Effective time management skills. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent analytical, research, and organizational skills required

  • Excellent organizational, planning and follow-through skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

  • Must be a self-starter; flexible, customer-focused, and have a professional demeanor

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Paralegal Certification strongly preferred
