Sierra Nevada Corporation Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Systems Engineer II in Plano, Texas

Join our team! As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

In this position, you will work with a small multi-disciplinary team to design, model, build, test and deploy solutions to meet customer operational needs and challenges.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary development team to rapidly provide solutions to customer challenges

  • Elicit, derive, document and maintain hardware, software, and/or system requirements to meet internal or external customer specifications

  • Support systems integration activities

  • Document, plan, manage, and perform testing on systems and sub-systems to verify requirements

  • Provide data and materials to support internal and external customer facing meetings

  • Analyze, design, simulate, and implement algorithms in hardware descriptor languages, HDL (VHDL, Verilog), based on customer requirements and/or MATLAB model(s)

  • Implement and validate signal processing concepts such as FFTs, channelizers, digital filters, digital modulation, digital down/up-conversion, adaptive processing, etc

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 2 or more years of relevant experience

  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles

  • Experience in Radio Frequency (RF) Hardware Development and Test

  • Typically 6 or more years of relevant experience developing DSP software systems, preferably in a SIGINT/military context

  • Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and other scripting languages commonly used in DSP systems

  • Experience with signal processing libraries and frameworks such as Redhawk, GNU radio, intel primitives (IPP), liquid DSP, FFTW, GNU scientific libraries, etc

Preferred:

  • Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB

  • Knowledge of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience or certification in INCOSE standards

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Exposure to baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures

  • Understanding of establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)

  • Experience with MOSA/SOSA standards

  • Understanding of industry standard software languages such as C, C#, C++, HTML, Java, Python, and Bash

  • Familiarity with FPGA and ARM processors and memory access (e.g. DMA)

  • Experience with RF systems, including signal generators, amplifiers, filters, and spectrum analyzers

  • Familiarity with Signals Detection, ISR, ELINT, or ESM
