This position is for a Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer, providing key engineering support services in the R&D and manufacturing areas. The engineering team is responsible for the development, evaluation, simulation, documentation, presentation and manufacturing follow-on of hardware designs in the factory and in the supply chain. The Senior/Lead Engineer at times will oversee team efforts, provide technical guidance, and serve as a consulting or mentoring resource of engineering knowledge to team members. Team assignments include providing Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions for non-conforming hardware. The team also initiates drawing changes to resolve manufacturability, quality, technical, and design/drawing issues. Decisions for solutions must take into account technical, cost, quality and schedule considerations. Multi-disciplinary interaction and collaboration with representatives from customers, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, programs, electrical/RF engineering, design engineering, and company management, are an essential part of the job.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be responsible for the packaging design of airborne electronics.

  • Ensure that the electronics will survive in harsh environments and that your design meets a defined set of requirements.

  • Work closely with manufacturing to make sure that your designs have a high yield rate in production.

  • Use Mechanical or Thermal analysis tools to reduce risk before your design goes to manufacturing or test.

  • Present your designs to your peers, management, and stakeholders to gather feedback.

  • Work on multiple projects at a time.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Act as the primary contact for the team, assuring that internal and customer needs are identified and addressed.

  • Assign, supervise and direct the work of Engineers/Designers and oversee their output for completeness, consistency, timeliness and accuracy.

  • Represent the group in design reviews and other meetings with internal teams or customers.

  • Monitor and maintain budgetary controls.

  • Make recommendations on human resources actions (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.).

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.

  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Experience developing thermal management solutions for a variety of real-world military and industrial environments. Ideal candidate has mechanical design and test experience as well.

  • Demonstrates expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice in the field of thermal analysis. Prior experience with closed form (by-hand) calculations is required.

  • Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Simcenter is highly desired.

  • Experience with Ansys Mechanical, ICEPAK, FLUENT simulation tools is highly desired.

  • Some experience with SOLIDWORKS, CREO, Windchill, and Simulate (or similar CAE tools) is also desired.

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint is also required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance is required.

  • A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
