We are seeking candidates for exciting and rewarding Instrument Technician Apprenticeship opportunities available at our facility in Prentiss, Alberta.

Apprentices participate in a up to 4-year program offering hands-on work experience in our chemical plants and will be expected to attend college to earn Alberta Journeyperson Certification. During the program, Apprentices will be offered paid wages during work assignments and tuition for schooling. Upon successful completion of the program, Apprentices will have earned a Journeyperson certificate in one of several technical disciplines. Apprentices will report to an Early Career Site Program Leader who will support the Apprentice throughout the apprenticeship program. Apprentices who successfully complete the program will also be highly considered for a permanent job within the company.

Individuals selected to fill an available Apprentice opening will be required to sign an offer letter that will commit them to working for Dow for 2 years upon being offered a full-time position.

About you and this role- What you would do in this role.

Instrument Technicians install, maintain and repair the measuring and control instruments used in industrial processing. They work with a wide variety of pneumatic, and electronic instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition to support the process plants.

A preference for this role will be given to those already registered in Alberta Apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities- Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role.

  • Maintaining and repairing all types of instrument systems.

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and replacing defective components on instrumentation.

  • Reading electrical, logic, and loop diagrams.

  • Electronic troubleshooting and repair skills.

  • Procedure use - this includes field use, review, revision, and development of procedures.

Qualifications - Required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves).

  • High school diploma that includes: English 20-2, Math 30-3, Physics 30 and Chemistry 30, or equivalentand/orpass the entrance exam.

  • Must be eligible to enroll in a partnering community college without any type of hold which prevents a student from registering for classes.

  • All roles require a current, valid Canadian driver's license. Please note that before being cleared to report to work, you will be required to successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Records check to verify the status of your driver’s license.

  • A minimum requirement for this Canadian based position is the ability to work legally in Canada.

Willing and able to meet the physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Be able to climb ladders/stairs and work at heights.

  • Be able to work in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Essential functions of this position may require, among other things, that the employee use particular types of equipment.
