Colorado Department Of Transportation Civil Engineer Project Manager I, Construction - Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents. OR This position is open to Colorado residents and non-residents applicants.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About the Unit This work unit conducts planning/scoping initiatives, create design plans, specifications, engineering estimates for roadway construction projects, advertise those projects, and administer their construction. It also provides management, guidance, and review of consultant-designed roadway projects for the Colorado Department of Transportation. The unit assures that in-house and consultant plans are in compliance with the guidelines, standards and policies of the State of Colorado and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Also ensures that projects stay within scope, budget, and schedule. This requires collaboration with other branches of CDOT, FHWA, private consultants, outside agencies, contractors, and the public.

About the position Under the charge of a licensed Professional Engineer / Resident Engineer this position performs construction management as the Project Engineer and serves as the Chief Engineer s representative on low to medium risk construction projects or as an Assistant Project Engineer on projects of higher risk and complexity. The position is responsible for full time project management or aspects thereof depending on if they are the Project Engineer or the Assistant Project Engineer. Will be skilled in interpreting the project plans, specifications, and project budget; development of as-constructed plans, construction management services task orders, management of the project staff to assure compliance with the administration of contract documents.

The position checks CDOT construction plans and reviews engineering consultants' project plans. Performs contract administration and review project invoices, prepare/maintain project budgets and schedules, and coordinate project work activities with multiple CDOT Specialty Units.

The position is expected to perform administrative duties including employee training and development, pursue completion of required supervisory training classes, and perform supervisory/lead worker duties as assigned.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Construction Management

Provides management of assigned project during the construction phase to ensure onstruction activities are in compliance with plans, specifications, standards, policies, procedures, laws and regulations, including all required documentation. Train, advise, assign, and supervise subordinates who perform construction related tasks. Coordinate with the public, local, state, federal entities, businesses, railroads, utility, special interest groups, and all project stake holders, regarding construction activities, construction conflicts, and requests for information on projects. Document and prepare construction reports of project progress, project budgets, and project plan changes. Review construction related submittals and determined the acceptability of constructed work. Prepare all necessary documentation for construction management services task orders. Requires a driver s license to visit project sites and attend meetings.
