Liberty Latin America Senior Treasury Cash Accountant in San Juan, Puerto Rico

What´s the role?

As a Senior Cash Accountant, you will be responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly accounting tasks, including formal GL cash accounts reconciliations. This role operates on the operational side of treasury cash accounting and collaborates with accounting, cash management, analytical cash flows and cash flow modeling, both short and long term. Responsible for the daily recording, matching, and clearing of the bank transactions and monthly bank reconciliations. Timely completion of month-end close activities is crucial, and you are expected to suggest improvements for efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy while upholding US GAAP principles. The role requires meeting tight deadlines, handling various accounting activities, and conducting SOX compliance tasks.

How can you add value?

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the general ledger, balance sheet accounts, and SAP structure and functionality.

  • Support the achievement of accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to deadlines by preparing journal entries and analyzing transactions and balance sheet accounts.

  • Accurate cash movements recognition, in compliance with US GAAP. Maintain the accuracy of assigned balance sheet accounts in Blackline, adhering to Balance Sheet control expectations.

  • Review and analyze transaction accounting treatments to ensure alignment with US GAAP reporting requirements, supporting external reporting such as 10-Qs, 10-K, and local statutory reports. Review complex cash transactions and resolve appropriate accounting treatment.

  • Oversee the monthly closing process for cash accounting.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of cash accounting reports and analysis to support the accounting period closes.

  • Identify, design, and propose ways to make the cash accounting process more efficient.

  • Build and maintain internal controls over cash accounting operations.

  • Serve as a key technical resource/specialist for US GAAP cash accounting.

  • Review and record estimates and communicate needed cash entries in general ledger to GBS accounting team.

  • Prepare and/or review detailed reconciliations of associated balance sheet accounts and P&L activity.

  • Develop and execute analytical procedures to understand and explain variances from expectations on account balances and transactional activity.

  • Monitor the service level of the cash management & lock box providers and address any issues.

  • Offer guidance and feedback on potential misstatements in financial reporting or accounts, actively participating in issue resolution.

  • Respond promptly to inquiries regarding financial results and address special reporting requests.

  • Contribute to a clean and timely year-end audit, collaborating with other departments and finance personnel to obtain, verify, and record transaction report data.

  • Assist in budget and forecasting activities.

  • Collaborate with other finance department staff to support overall department goals and objectives.

  • Support special projects and contribute to workflow process operational improvements.

  • Demonstrate and ensure compliance with Liberty Latin America's Privacy Policy, Customer First Philosophy, and all of Liberty Latin America’s policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.

  • Other functions may be assigned.

What do you need?

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting and CPA would be a plus.

3-6 years of experience in the accounting/financial reporting areas.

Treasury working knowledge including cash management, oversight, controls, and local/international treasury policies preferred.

US GAAP Experience.

Specialist/Advanced Excel Skills.

Other Qualifications:

  • Technically proficient at a high level in Hyperion Financial Management and or SAP.

  • Strong accounting background including experience performing journal and general ledger entries, reconciliations, etc.

  • Experience working with Financial ERP systems (i.e. SAP).

  • Working knowledge and experience with SOX controls, testing and requirements.

  • A deep understanding of cash accounting in a software-based company preferable.

  • The ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize workload and achieve effective results in a fast-paced, dynamic, ever-growing, and effective multi-tasking skills are vital.

  • Proven experience working within a multinational environment, with preference on experience within a US GAAP environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Ability to research complex topics, make improvements and provide well substantiated recommendations to management, including ability to summarize information clearly and effectively in presentations and paper.

  • Ability to work, develop, build, and improve detailed financial models. Strong Excel skills, financial consolidation tools and PowerPoint presentations.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to focus on the detail while keeping the broader context in perspective.

  • Strive to deliver results quickly, balancing structured and tight deadlines with ad hoc project work.

  • Proven ability to seek our operational improvement efforts within the Finance organization to raise productivity, timeliness, and completeness.
