Position Description This position provides metallurgical knowledge and analysis for the Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratory. The individual will coordinate competitive benchmarking, supplier approval testing and contribute to failure analysis investigations originating from both product field and test failures. Additionally, the person will act as a materials resource to others in the organization, assist in personnel training on appropriate laboratory equipment and assist or lead materials and process development projects. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine and material analysis (\75% of the time, typically) with some supervision. Conduct failure analysis (\25% of the time, typically) with supervision. Assist in material development projects. Independent operation of sectioning/polishing, metallographs and digital microscopes and beginning to perform preventative maintenance. Participate in work order meetings for routine analysis. Develop the ability to spot abnormalities in samples and recognizes erroneous results in testing. Review new LP\'s and perform a walk-through of the method for peer review. Generate formal reports with interpretation of data. Required Education & Qualifications Materials Engineer I: BS degree required in materials engineering or related field with 1 - 3 years of experience, or a Master\'s degree in materials engineering Knowledge and experience with a diverse set of alloys (primarily aluminum, copper and stainless steel) with an understanding of process/structure/property relationships.
