CITY OF RALEIGH Communications Analyst, Sr. in Raleigh, North Carolina

TheCommunications Analyst, Sr.position is devoted to creating and disseminating visual, digital, written and spoken information about the City. Incumbents provide advanced journey level professional public information and public affairs work and are considered subject-matter experts with the highest level of knowledge, providing consultation to other department staff, management, and elected officials. As assigned, incumbents may serve as official point of contact and spokesperson for a department or function. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise other staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates internal and external communication campaigns for Police Department, including community outreach and audience engagement events and project activities. Develops tools to help the flow of communication both within and outside of the organization.
  • Assigns work and monitors completion; supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Manages the development of communications and outreach plans and strategies including efforts dealing with complex, emergency and/or sensitive issues; identifies communication needs; researches communication technologies and engagement tools; and recommends promotional campaigns and communications initiatives.
  • Directs the distribution of news releases, scripts, articles, publications, website/web content, video content, graphics, creative concepts, and/or information to media channels.
  • Manages campaign/project analysis and evaluation of communication campaign reach and project results; identifies improvement processes and methods; implements recommended changes for future campaigns and projects.
  • Provides direct training for staff members related to internal and external communication including, but not limited to, distribution of news releases and use of social media platforms.
  • Coordinates resources and logistics in support of event communications and special projects; attends events and coordinates project-related activities.
  • Provides input on key messages, ideas, copy, and lay out of artwork, representing the Departments perspective and responses to the public.
  • Contributes to the development of graphic art, marketing, and other branding materials.
  • Develops and manages a branding strategy for the organization.
  • Available for on-call responses to the news media via an established schedule.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, public affairs or directly related field and five years of public communications experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
