CITY OF RALEIGH Utility Technician in Raleigh, North Carolina

The UtilityTechnician positionis overseeing the offloading process of hazardous materials and must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment in extreme conditions.This position is part-time 4-5 days a week Monday through Friday. Hours 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitors chemical offloading processes.
  • Performs visual, olfactory, and auditory checks of assigned areas of the treatment plant to detect any failures.
  • Monitors chemical tank levels during offloading process.
  • Complete paperwork for offloading process
  • Assures offloading driver adheres to safety check list and wears proper PPE.
  • Directs and provide customer service to drivers.
  • Notifies SCADA operator, Utility Coordinator, or Operations Supervisor of any issues with chemical quality, or offloading process.
  • Performs quality control analysis for chemicals being delivered
  • Completes dilution calculation for sodium hypochlorite and fluoride.
  • Notifies SCADA operator of new fluoride concentration
  • Performs facility equipment inspections including weekly safety showers, fire extinguishers, and AED; notifies appropriate maintenance personnel or operations supervisor of any deficiencies of safety showers, fire extinguishers, or AED units.
  • Writes Service Request in City Works system for any equipment or areas of the assigned workspace need repairs.
  • Notifies leader or supervisor of critical issues in the offloading areas.
  • Attends team meetings and safety training.
  • Completes all required virtual trainings.
  • Performs general housekeeping in work areas related to the position.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Read and respond to emails.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma (or GED). At least 1 year of relevant experience is required. Applicants may substitute additional relevant education for the required experience.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
