Victorian Assisted Living Resident Care Assistant (RCA) in Rapid City, South Dakota

Resident Care Assistant JOB SUMMARY: The resident care aide (RCA) performs routine services for residents of the facility including assistance with bathing and hair care, ambulation, management of personal belongings. There may be special circumstances for which the aide attends training and is permitted to perform additional duties. Some lifting, kneeling, bending, and stooping may be required. JOB RELATIONSHIPS: A. Responsible to: The RCA reports to the staff nurse on duty, B. Supervisory: The RCA does not generally supervise other staff members but does supervise and redirect confused residents as needed. C. Other Relationships: The RCA regularly interacts with residents and works cooperatively with all other staff of the facility. They may also work with families and outside providers to meet the needs of the residents. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. The Resident Care Aide is responsible to assist residents with activities of daily living A(DL) to include: personal hygiene, dressing, ambulating, communicating with family, and participating in facility or community activities. B. The following duties are unique to this position:

  1. Assists residents with bathing, hair care, mouth care and nail care. Nurses or designee are responsible for diabetic nail care.
  2. Assists residents with dressing; including: care of clothing and personal items, putting on or taking of compression stockings and reminding resident to clean and insert dentures as needed.
  3. Makes bed while resident is dressing, if time permits.
  4. Reminds and assists residents with maintaining their room in a neat and orderly fashion.
  5. Assists residents with ambulation, including reminders to use assistive devices such as walkers or canes as appropriate.
  6. Reminds residents when it is mealtime and encourage them to eat and sufficient fluids.
  7. Assists residents with toileting and personal hygiene; including monitoring for incontinence, perineal care and changing of depends.
  8. Observes, reports to the nurse and charts in the ADL chart, resident behavior or refusals, condition changes and signs of injury or neglect.
  9. Obtains and records vital signs and weight month as directed by the nurse. Obtains height on each resident upon admission and annually.
  10. Documents each resident's ADL's each shift.
  11. At mealtimes the RCA sets tables, assists with serving meals, clears tables and helps clean dishes; to include lifting dish racks in and out of the dishwasher.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned by the nurse or Certified Medication Assistant in charge of the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education: High School diploma or GED is recommended. The ability to read, write and speak English is essential and the RCA must be able to understand and follow oral and written directions. B.
