Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the Databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

One of the unique features of Azure CosmosDB is its multi-model APIs which allows customers to develop new or migrate existing applications using popular open-source (OSS) APIs such as MongoDB, giving it a unique edge. As one of the fastest-growing Azure services, CosmosDB Mongo team is looking for a passionate and technical engineering lead to guide the team in designing, implementing and delivering our next generation single tenant vCore MongoDB API built on the top of the distributed Cosmos DB for PostgreSql.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer Lead, you will:

  • Lead a team of software engineers and drive architectural design and implementation of the gateway services for CosmosDB vCore Mongo.

  • Collaborate with adjacent stakeholders across multiple disciplines and organizations to develop robust and scaling services and components.

  • Leverage a variety of feedback channels and operability metrics to incorporate insights into future designs.

  • Coaches team to ensure proper processes achieving high degree of quality, serviceability, performance and compliance.

  • Provide technical leadership and guideline in delivering large-scale features and solving complex issues.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of people management experience.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to,C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of people management experience.

  • 2+ years of development experience in RUST.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
