Universal Engineering Sciences Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Reno, Nevada

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer ready to apply their skills to a wide variety of projects. The ideal candidate has not only the technical skills needed for this position but also the ability to communicate effectively with all team members regarding geotechnical projects from conception through construction. This is an opportunity to step into an established firm with broad experience in Northern Nevada and a diverse base of repeat clients. Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical computational analysis and design calculations in compliance with project and contract requirements, including monitoring of exploration programs, soil classifications, and engineering analysis for geotechnical engineering portions of projects.

  • Work closely with clients, including owners, architects, and other design professionals to determine project needs.

  • Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports.

  • Train, mentor, and guide staff professionals within the geotechnical department.

  • Client management and day-to-day correspondence from initial proposal through reporting and follow-up.

  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and change orders for new and existing work.

  • Complete project invoicing and budget tracking.

  • Meet with clients and establish and cultivate relationships to generate business for the department.

  • Coordinate with construction services and laboratory department managers for new and ongoing work.

  • Oversee department Profit and Loss including management and controls of budgets, utilization, collections, and other costs impacting profitability of geotechnical services in coordination with the Branch Manager.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • P.E. License in Nevada, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.

  • 5+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering or a closely related field.

  • Project and personnel management experience strongly preferred.

  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and clients.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.

  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.

  • Current driver’s license without restrictions (Acceptable 39-month driving record).

  • Willingness to help with business development and market to new clients.
