Basic Purpose: The incumbent in this position is responsible for all the base functions of Manufacturing Engineering to aid production in any process (including cutting, forming, welding, painting, and assembly) at any fabrication location. The employee is accountable for the development and implementation of the Manufacturing Nest, product routings, product setup in plex and software/hardware maintenance to guide the Parts Making Process in the most efficient methods available for various machines and processes.
Nature & Scope: This position reports to the Engineering Manager and secondarily to R1 Plant Manager. This position is responsible for all the base functions of Manufacturing Engineering. These encompass improving and developing Manufacturing Parts, processes, machinery and staffing to improve production throughput. This will involve any of the production processes performed at Taylor Metal Fabrication or Taylor Power Systems.
This position will use various tools to perform the job, including computers, computer generated reports, reference books, calculators, experience, etc.
The position requires having knowledge in the fields of Parts Making, Production Assembly, Finishing and related fields.
The incumbent functions as the Manufacturing Nesting originator for TMF.
The incumbent reviews the results and recommends specific changes to achieve the most economical utilization of the company's personnel, material, and equipment.
The incumbent maintains interrelations with other departments, especially production and engineering.
The incumbent will need to possess communication skills to gain and disperse information.
The incumbent makes recommendations based on time studies and assists in implementing any changes. The incumbent works with Production Supervisory personnel in planning Production flow in accordance with production schedule, anticipated delays, etc.
The employee assists in preparing cost estimates on prototype manufacturing, to facilitate design changes and performs time studies to improve production or to affect cost savings.
At all times, the incumbent considers safety practices and follows guidelines set forth by Company Policies.
To be effective, the incumbent must have a working knowledge in standard and base Manufacturing Engineering practices, procedures, and criteria, enabling the incumbent to apply them to the TMF system.
The incumbe nt's work is not directly supervised; therefore, the incumbent will be expected to plan, organize, and proceed, but keep supervision informed. The incumbent must continually strive for cost reduction through increased productivity.
Must be knowledgeable and capable of generating programs for the Salvagnini folder, Amade and Cincinnati presses, Amada laser and the Messer cutting table. Must be knowledgeable of machines and the necessary tooling (such as press dies, cutting heads/tips, welding equipment, etc.) to design parts within the capabilities of the machinery and personnel.
This position is responsible for managing all orders in the schedule for the timely release to production.
Employee must have extensive knowledge of plex, sigma nest, and the equipment software to set up part types and ma age all jobs and processes though the work centers.
The incumbent will also participate in other tasks assigned by the manager.
Principal Accountabilities: • Nests parts for cutting machines at TPS locations. • Investigates workforce utilization. Recommends the most effective methods and helps implement changes. • Surveys production facilities and layouts. Recommends alterations of facilities • Consider material flow and utilization for increased productivity. • Studies informational flow to check clarity and accuracy. Recommend revisions, as necessary. • Proficient in the Parts Making Process. • Provides instruction and/or training as qualified.
Educational Requirements: There must be a working knowledge of metal forming and machine practices, fabricating and assembly as they relate to heavy equipment. This will necessitate having one of the following: a two-year Drafting and Design Degree, a four-year Industrial or Manufacturing Technology degree or the equivalent in demonstrated ability and experience. The employee must be conscientious.
