General Motors Manufacturing Group - Facility Area Manager in Roanoke, Indiana

The Role

Fort Wayne Assembly is in search of a Facilities Area Manager, who serves as the single point of contact for all facility and utility needs, including facility maintenance, housekeeping, facilities related projects, utilities management, mobile equipment, roads, and grounds.

The Facilities Area Manager will be responsible to lead a group of salary employees, including Facilities engineers, Facilities Maintenance Representatives, Site Utilities Manager, and 3rd party service provider management team that oversee facilities maintenance and housekeeping at the site.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion for Workplace Safety System elements, performance standards, and technical standards. Responsible for meeting the plant and GM Global Safety standards, including but not limited to: Speak up for Safety, Global Call to Action, Safety Observation Tours, employee safety concerns, incident investigation, Workplace Safety System compliance, and SIF events.

  • Single point of contact for all facility related systems and maintenance/sustainment of plant facilities, powerhouse, CoGen, and wastewater treatment equipment. Ensure resolution of daily facility operational goals at site which enables consistent facility management, maintenance, energy supply, cleanliness, environmental compliance, and mobile equipment initiatives. Manage longer term projects by pulling in the required resources such as engineering, resource management, communications, real estate, food, and administration services.

  • Implements divisional and corporate policies, safety, and good housekeeping practices while complying with the terms of local and national labor agreements.

  • Leads in the selection of new employees, trains, develops, and evaluates employees. Develop leaders able to articulate and execute strategic facilities projects and plans.

  • Responsible for developing and meeting budgets and forecasts within assigned area. Facility cost account champion for 4000 Account - Utilities. Supports all other cost councils to develop and implement cost savings initiatives for Facilities.

  • Utilize Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles, statements, and elements to sustain facilities related business metrics and create BPD objectives that drive results in SPQRCE at all levels through continuous improvement.

  • Lead critical site planning activities including hourly and salary headcount forecast and utilization, budgets, project funding, space planning, resource management and labor agreements with unions. Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project and proven ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with the highest level of autonomy and accountability for results.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) ​​

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineer field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing plant.

  • At least 5 years of experience working in maintenance or facilities.

  • Ability to work OT and shift work as needed.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 10+ years of experience working in a manufacturing plant.

  • 10+ years of experience working in maintenance or facilities.

  • Extensive knowledge of facilities systems, building design, codes, and specifications.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as lead teams.

  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing facilities.
