Responsibilities

General Purpose:

Manages the housekeeping services for University and other satellite buildings.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment:

  2. Formulates and recommends housekeeping services' organization for facilities and other satellite buildings; directs its activities primarily through Environmental Services Supervisors; establishes work priorities, routines and procedures.

  3. Prepares budgets, makes recommendations and establishes expenditure controls.

  4. Makes frequent inspections of buildings to insure cleanliness; observes and reports defective building equipment, plumbing, hardware, broken windows and other irregularities.

  5. Coordinates day cleaning activities with Night Shift Supervisors; periodically inspects the night shift and their activities.

  6. Provides for setting up facilities (chairs, tables and other equipment) for functions such as conferences, lectures, concerts, etc. Provides for the moving of furniture between rooms and buildings.

  7. Determines need for contractual maintenance and custodial services; determines vendors, places orders, approves completed projects or items, recommends payment.

  8. Approves or disapproves overtime for the department.

  9. Receives and responds to grievances and refers them to Supervisors concerned, or consults and attempts to resolve the problems; where necessary refers grievances to the Director or Assistant Director.

  10. Determines the need and arranges for vermin and insect extermination.

  11. Initiates purchase orders for supplies, materials, equipment and services to carry out housekeeping functions.

  12. Reviews plans for new buildings to insure provision for adequate custodial facilities; plans for future schedules, equipment and material requirements.

  13. Coordinates housekeeping activities with various academic and administrative departments to insure that their requests for services are satisfied.

  14. Serves on committees as requested.

  15. Keeps informed of new methods and equipment. Evaluates alternative methods and procedures and submits recommendations to the Assistant Director.

  16. Interviews, selects, trains and supervises housekeeping staff. Sets performance standards and evaluates the performance of Supervisors. Makes recommendations on salary, promotions and other personnel factors.

Requirements :

High School diploma with 2 years of additional schooling in institutional or sanitary management and 5 years of experience in housekeeping services, 2 of which were at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $63,815 - $95,723 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
