The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is seeking:

Position Title: Regional Director of Gastroenterology

Position Overview:

The Regional Director for UR Gastroenterology & Hepatology will serve as the liaison between regional affiliate entities and the Chief of the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Division. This position will work closely with senior affiliate and hospital leadership to expand regional GI services. Objectives include building team-based care and optimizing clinical, operational, and financial efforts. Service in this role will be at the pleasure of the Division Chief of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and the Chair of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

· Effort: 60% Clinical / 30% Administrative / 10% Academic

· Reports to the Chief of UR Gastroenterology and Hepatology

· Candidate should be at the Associate or Professor level

· Clinical effort will be focused at our regional affiliates (including office / support person)

· Part of the GI Division Steering committee as needed

· Responsible for provider staffing models and participates in hiring

· Collaboration with affiliate hospitals for appropriate on-call and transfers of care protocols

Job Description:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure the delivery of high-quality gastroenterology services within the region.

  • Works closely with Division Chief and key affiliate leaders to support visionary leadership to drive the achievement of clinical, operational, and financial objectives.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the gastroenterology department.

  • Work with URMC Department of Medicine, Division Chief, and affiliate leadership to:

  • Implement revenue enhancement strategies and cost containment initiatives to achieve financial goals.

  • Monitor key performance indicators and financial metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with other departments, healthcare providers, and external stakeholders to promote integrated and coordinated care.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with referring physicians, healthcare organizations, and community partners.

  • Represent the gastroenterology department and participate in relevant committees, meetings, and initiatives as required.

  • Implement clinical protocols and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality of care across the region.

  • Provide clinical oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.

Staff Management and Development:

  • Collaborate with URMC GI to recruit, hire, and retain qualified staff, including gastroenterologists and Advanced Practice Providers.

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for regional providers to foster a high-performing team.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues in a timely and constructive manner.

Quality Assurance:

  • Participates in quality assurance programs to monitor and improve the quality of clinic and endoscopic services.

  • Establish clinical protocols, guidelines, and performance metrics to measure and enhance patient outcomes.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and guidelines governing endoscopic services.

  • Stay abreast of changes in regulations, policies, and best practices related to endoscopy and gastroenterology.

  • Work closely with quality assurance, risk management, and compliance teams to address regulatory issues and maintain a culture of safety and compliance.

Working Conditions:

  • This position typically operates in a healthcare facility, including outpatient clinics, endoscopy units, and hospital settings.

  • Regular travel within the region may be required.

· Flexible hours may be necessary to accommodate operational needs and emergencies.

Qualifications

M.D. Degree or equivalent

Must obtain a New York State Medical License prior to start date

Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry

Must meet all credentialing requirements

Eligible for Board Certification in Gastroenterology

Post offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required

Compliance with University and New York State health requirements

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
