For candidates in Seattle & Colorado the salary range is between $82,000 and $123,000 and will be open to applicants until June 3, 2024.

Job Description:

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Field Services and Project Manager for our Infrastructure Monitoring Services (IMS) team supporting geotechnical, mining, tunnel and dam engineering projects. This role will work closely with our design team to identify and implement monitoring system opportunities in conjunction with our designers. Our IMS combines instrumentation, engineering and risk management to evaluate performance metrics of engineered systems creating long term value for our clients. Qualified candidates will be driven, well-rounded, organized problem solvers with excellent communication skills and an interest in managing and developing junior engineers and installers. The successful candidate for this position will gain practical knowledge and experience while solving real-world engineering problems under the supervision and mentoring of senior engineering personnel.

Options for the location of this position include but are not necessarily limited to our offices in Chadds Ford, PA; Baltimore, MD; Rockville, MD; Sterling, VA; Richmond, VA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; or Seattle, WA. Other locations are also available for consideration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn and master application and implementation of manual and automated infrastructure monitoring systems including Schnabel’s IMS portal (powered by sensemetrics) for geotechnical, mining, tunnel and dam applications.

  • Develop relationships with design engineers within Schnabel and existing and new clients to identify and develop instrumentation monitoring services.

  • Work with Engineers and Clients to identify needs and goals of IMS services.

  • Develop scope of services and budgets for IMS systems.

  • Negotiate execution of IMS contracts.

  • Install and integrate IoT connectivity devices as well as other vendor hardware and sensors at project sites worldwide.

  • Supervision of technical staff in the installation and commissioning of automation and sensor products and related field work, providing:

  • effective oversight and planning of team schedules.

  • preparation, training, and equipping of staff with all necessary tools to complete their assigned tasks.

  • auditing of all installations (in-person and remote) for proper and complete execution of work, and client satisfaction

  • Develop installation plans/submittals and installation closeout reports

  • resolution of critical technical and procedural problems.

  • Develop and administer processes and procedures for tracking of technical staff performance

  • Administrate compliance of company and employee safety programs with client and regulatory requirements.

  • Work with the assigned Engineering Project Manager to ensure they are informed of all outstanding commitments and issues at the completion of field implementation

  • Adequately document details of on-site work to equip the support team in future troubleshooting requests

  • Provide training to technical team members, as needed

  • Use appropriate processes and procedures to manage and report changes in project scope, schedule, and costs

  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to clients, as needed

  • Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD, MicroStation and GIS

  • Develop geotechnical engineering instrumentation recommendations

  • Perform project management activities including communicating resource needs, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting

  • Manage client relationships and business development opportunities

  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level

  • Work as a team member within the geotechnical engineering department and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • 3 to 10 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, instrumentation installation, and/or instrumentation manufacturing

  • Instrumentation software and hardware installation and troubleshooting

  • AutoCAD, MicroStation and GIS skills suitable for developing geotechnical deliverables

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment

  • Willing to travel with in the United States or abroad (estimated to be of your time)

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with sensemetrics (Bentley IoT) monitoring portal

  • Demonstrated experience with geotechnical instrumentation for transportation projects,

  • Managerial/mentoring/business development experience

  • Literacy in computer programming languages and electronic repair

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint software

Additional Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status (no visa sponsorship provided)

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside

  • Ability to perform field work and travel as needed

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening
