Position Title: Landscaper Reports To: Landscape Supervisor/Manager Job Summary: A Landscaper is responsible for creating and maintaining outdoor spaces by planting, trimming, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns. They ensure that landscapes are aesthetically pleasing, healthy, and functional. This role involves physical labor, working with various tools and equipment, and often working in various weather conditions. Key Responsibilities: Landscape Installation: Plan and implement landscape designs as per the project specifications. Plant trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns. Install hardscape elements such as walkways, patios, retaining walls, and water features. Maintenance and Care: Mow, edge, and fertilize lawns. Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges. Weed and mulch landscape beds. Apply pesticides and herbicides as needed. Maintain irrigation systems, including installation, repairs, and scheduling. Site Preparation and Clean-up: Prepare soil by tilling, grading, and adding amendments. Clear debris, leaves, and litter from landscapes. Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal and leaf collection. Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws safely and efficiently. Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery to ensure they are in good working order. Customer Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their landscaping needs and preferences. Provide advice on plant selection, care, and landscape design. Address any customer concerns or questions in a professional manner. Skills and Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in horticulture or landscaping is a plus. Proven experience as a landscaper or similar role. Knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care, and landscape design principles. Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment. Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions. Strong attention to detail and aesthetic sense. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. Basic understanding of irrigation systems and lawn care products. Work Environment: Majority of work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions. Requires physical exertion, including lifting, bending, digging, and operating machinery. May involve working with chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides. Career Advancement: Opportunities for advancement include positions such as Senior Landscaper, Landscape Supervisor, Landscape Designer, or Landscape Architect, depending on education and experience.
