Intermountain Health Financial Reporting Manager in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for preparing and reviewing accurate and timely financial statements and reports for internal and external users, in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Intermountain policies and procedures. The leader will work collaboratively with other leaders and teams across Intermountain and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee, the Audit and Compliance Committee, rating agencies, bond investors, banking institutions, and the general public.

This is a hybrid position.

  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports, including statistical metrics and board level Key Performance Indicators, for internal and external users, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and Intermountain policies and procedures.

  • Manage and assist in the monthly general ledger closing process for various facilities or business units, ensuring that personnel are adequately trained and adhere to the month-end close process, and that the business unit and reporting structure within the general ledger appropriately support the organizational needs of Intermountain.

  • Manage and assist in the quarterly and annual financial close process and the external audits of financial statements of Intermountain and its affiliated companies, ensuring that supporting schedules and information are prepared and reviewed and that technical accounting issues are resolved with the external auditors.

  • Provide technical accounting guidance and support to Finance and Accounting personnel, including researching technical accounting issues, drafting technical accounting memos, educating personnel in applying accounting principles, and staying abreast of current accounting developments and standards.

  • Participate in the implementation and application of new accounting standards, ensuring that Intermountain is at the leading edge of compliance with accounting standards and that Accounting and affected Finance personnel are trained and prepared to adopt and implement the new standards.

  • Review and evaluate potential growth and integration opportunities and provide input on related deliverables to senior leaders, including, overseeing opening balance sheet audits of acquired entities, assisting with the financial review and evaluation of potential acquisition targets, overseeing accounting functions and internal controls processes for growth and integration to ensure that the integration efforts of acquired entities and the set-up of accounting structure for new entities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Oversees employee benefit plan audits of Intermountain and prepares financial statements for the various plans, communicating auditor requests for client prepared schedules, and partnering with external auditors to resolve technical accounting issues.

  • Prepare and review presentation materials (e.g., management's discussion and analysis, PowerPoint presentations, other communications) for the Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee, the Audit and Compliance Committee, regional boards, senior leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that the financial information is clear, accurate, and consistent.

  • Author and update the content of applicable accounting policies and procedures published in the policies and procedures repository, ensuring that they reflect current accounting practices and standards, and that they are communicated and followed by Finance and Accounting personnel.

  • Assist with Financial Reporting Control (FRC) efforts to test, review, and improve financial reporting controls with the accounting group, ensuring that a strong internal control environment is maintained and that control issues are identified and resolved.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in accounting or business required. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

  • CPA required.

  • Proficiency in how to query and mine data using databases required.

  • Demonstrated success in a role requiring attention to detail and analytical skills required.

  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders required.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing high performing teams and projects.

  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with experience communicating across all levels of an organization.

  • Experience in a role requiring self-directed outcomes while working with limited direct supervision.

  • Working knowledge of Intermountain's accounting information systems and financial processes preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in a CPA firm preparing audited financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP preferred.

  • Experience with nonprofit healthcare accounting and financial reporting preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$50.22 - $77.53
