Job Summary

The Operating Room Scheduling Coordinator provides patient coordination, scheduling, and administrative support for the University of Utah School of Dentistry operating room services. This position will provide scheduling support for operating room services across various hospitals and various providers.

Essential Functions

  1. Supporting patient operations with overall care coordination for patients seeking operating room services for the School of Dentistry.

  2. Acting as a liaison between providers and patients in the coordination and scheduling of their surgical care.

  3. Ensuring that all related patient appointments for operating room services are secured in a timely manner.

  4. Answering phones and following up with patients in securing their surgery appointments.

  5. Coordinating with various hospitals to secure operating room appointments.

  6. Ensuring proper billing and protocols are followed.

  7. Schedules surgery consultation visits in Epic for various providers.

  8. Coordinates with prior authorization teams to ensure prior authorization of services is secured.

  9. Coordinates with financial advocates as necessary for patients with financial hardship.

  10. Manages the operating room services email.

  11. Providing administrative support for operating room coordination.

  12. Coordinates and manages providers calendars, schedules, and OR block times.

  13. Providing customer service support for patients related to operating room care.

  14. Acting to ensure clinic policies and processes are followed.

Comments

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience working in an office or clinic, with an emphasis in scheduling, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); and demonstrated effective communication, human relations, and computer skills required. Some areas of assignment require completion of a medical terminology course, certification related to specific area, and/or additional years of related experience.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
