Job Summary

The Office of Wellness and Integrative Health seeks a Clinical Dietitian to assist in the development and implementation of innovative nutrition-based wellness programs for patients and employees and to perform clinical nutrition services with patients. The ideal applicant has a background in coaching in addition to nutrition prescription.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a professional representative of the Osher Center for Integrative Health to both internal and external clients.

  • Delivers wellness services including health coaching, nutrition-based education, wellness presentations and programming directly to clients and patients.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of innovative weight management and lifestyle behavior change programs in accordance with evidence-based strategies.

  • Assesses patients’ nutritional status and screens for potential risks.

  • Ascertains patients’ diet history, anthropometries, and pertinent lab values based on BEE , oral, anabolic, enteral, parenteral and degree of metabolic stress.

  • Educates patients and their families on nutritional needs and/or diets; assesses patients’ understanding of and compliance with prescribed diet principles.

  • Assists in planning patient menus and/or menu modifications according to the approved diet manual.

  • Assists in the development of and participates in departmental and interdisciplinary quality improvement programs.

  • Responsible for compiling and assessing patient charges on assigned units.

  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and communicates patient care and other issues to management.

  • Responsible for keeping updated on developments in clinical nutrition in assigned/specialty areas and maintaining up-to-date standards of practice in areas of specialties.

  • May mentor Nutrition and/or Wellness Coaching students during clinical placements or projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • Current License to practice as a Certified Dietitian in the State of Utah.

Preferred:

  • Two years of clinical/practical experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

  • Nutrition Focused Physical Exam ( NFPE ) Training.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences

  • CHES or NBHWC certification with documented health coaching experience

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field or equivalency.

  • One to three years of experience in health or nutrition education or a related area.

  • Background or understanding of exercise science principles.

  • Experience working with individuals with chronic health conditions.

  • Experience working with a variety of patient populations including pediatric, geriatric, and eating disorders.

  • Current License to practice as a Certified Dietitian in the State of Utah.

  • Comfortable with integrative health coaching to support patients in making behavior change

  • One to two years of experience with eating disorders, pediatric nutrition, or tube feeding ( TPN ).
