Job Description
In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team developing and sustaining medical diagnostic consumables including mechanical design and manufacturing automation. You will be expected to bring hands-on experience and knowledge in consumables development and high-volume manufacturing while utilizing sound engineering judgement and first principals. You will be expected to prototype and test various consumable concepts to provide rapid feedback and direction to the broader development team to drive fast and decisive decisions. Interfacing with outside vendors on rapid prototyping, machining, molding, and advanced manufacturing processes is required. This is a fast-paced position that demands the ability to quickly adapt to evolving changes within the instrument, assay, and user needs. You will be working across functional groups such as Systems Engineering, Assay Development, Manufacturing, and Process Transfer. Clear communication, the ability to collaborate with others, and being a self-starter are a must.
Required Skills
Injection modeling design
Plastic welding techniques (laser, ultrasonic, heat sealing, etc.)
Thermoforming
Experience in production fabrication techniques (machining, sheet metal, forming, molding, etc.)
Design For Manufacturing
Manufacturing process development
Technical report writing
Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling, detailed drawings, and GD&T
Creating and releasing 3D CAD designs and documentation in PDM Works
Creating, sourcing, and sustaining mechanical assembly bill-of-materials
Coordinating with suppliers, sourcing to facilitate initial prototype and production builds
Communicate and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members
Design and analysis of microfluidic systems
Develop basic thermal & structural analysis models of mechanical assemblies
Tolerance analysis
Design and build of manufacturing Fixtures

Preferred Qualifications
6+ years actively involved in the design of instrumentation and consumables in the medical device industry
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering product design fundamentals
6+ 3D solid modelling design tools experience utilizing SolidWorks and PDM Works
Experience using 3D thermal analysis software
Experience with structural analysis FEA tools
Experience with stack up tolerance analysis of complex design systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Coordinate prototype fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications
Evaluate and recommend design modifications based on prototype and breadboard systems
Provide technical information to team members on the design, development and testing of mechanical components, equipment, machinery, and systems
Collaborate with the rest of the Engineering team in the fabrication of test apparatus and equipment as well as the development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems
Technical engineering reports and engineering documents
A resourceful problem-solver with the ability to be self-directed
Knowledge of C# and/or Python programming are a huge plus!

The annualized base salary range for this role is $97,900 to $139,500 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
