Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$59.910 - $77.303 - $94.697

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

Director Development will provide leadership for the development and implementation of comprehensive multi-million-dollar philanthropy programs to benefit the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus (Sharp Memorial, Mesa Vista, Mary Birch hospitals and all clinical institutes and service lines and programs within). Provide direction for their comprehensive fund-raising initiatives, including campaign and strategic planning, board development and staff supervision.

Develop revenue goals and ensure financial targets are achieved at all entities and service lines assigned. Develop and maintain close working relationships with Board Members, physicians and key Sharp Metro leaders.

Sharp Memorial Hospital responsibilities include direct major gift fund raising (build relationships; cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects for gifts of $10,000 or more) with strong Board and physician participation. Work closely with Sharp Metro executive leadership, associated Boards of Directors including the Corporate, Foundation and Auxiliary boards. Supervise the Metro philanthropy team and ensure all revenue goals and metrics are met.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5 years' experience in fund development, preferably in a health care setting.

  • Proven fundraising track record in a comprehensive shop.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with volunteers.

  • Gift planning experience.

Essential Functions

  • _Metro Regional Leadership_ Provide philanthropic leadership at all facilities on the Metro campus to develop and manage a comprehensive fundraising plan, ensure annual revenue and expense budgets are established and regulatory and training requirements are met. Serve as a member of the Metro campus executive team representing the Foundation at events and meetings including corporate and foundation boards at the Metro market level. Communicate with managers and donors to ensure regular fund distribution occurs. Prepare philanthropic information for the Sharp metro and Foundation five year plans. Provide oversight and guidance for Metro Market donor development and engagement programs including all annual giving efforts (direct mail, employe giving, special events, guardian angel program, Partners,) and communication strategies (newsletters, web site, acknowledgement letters, annual report).

  • _ Sharp Memorial Hospital Major Gift Fund Raising Leadership_ Personally identify, research and solicit potential sources of gift support including individuals, corporations, community organizations and foundations to ensure that annual fundraising goals are met each year. Meet all metrics for number of solicitations, face-to-face meetings and use of ally in the solicitation process. Gather information from initiative/entity leadership to develop compelling case statements that can be used in funding proposals. Prepare written case statement and gift proposals for each initiative and/or entity responsible for. Identify, cultivate and solicit major/planned/campaign gift donors in collaboration with executive leadership, physicians and volunteers. Establish and maintain strong relationships with donors to steward existing gifts and create opportunities for future philanthropic support. Create effective solicitation approaches to include planned giving strategies in conjunction with campus and physician leadership.

  • _Metro Staff and Volunteer Development _Recruit, train and supervise Metro staff team to ensure success in reaching goals and metrics. Achieve 90+ percentile in employee satisfaction scores. Provide leadership in recruiting and retaining a high-level group of volunteers to assist with fund raising objectives. Provide direction for all meetings and events to ensure that all meetings/events are well organized, timely and meet objectives. Recruit and train volunteers in fund raising process. Utilize entity CEO and physician leadership on councils in effective manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize and direct fund-raising organizational activities.

  • Must have excellent written skills and be able to write proposals to donors outlining health programs that are understandable to a non-medical audience.

  • Must be personable, articulate, diplomatic and be skilled at asking for major gift donations in person and in writing.

  • Excellent oral and motivation skills required.

  • Proven fundraising track record in a comprehensive shop.

  • Is a self-starter with a 'roll-up your sleeves' approach.

  • Demonstrated commitment to philanthropy.
