Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$75.051 - $96.840 - $118.629

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

This position executes strategic plans and provides overall direction and management of the day-to-day activities and resources of the Sharp Copley Laboratory. Carries out plans and activities to achieve optimal provision and coordination of reference laboratory services and resources.

Ensures high quality and responsive laboratory services, regulatory compliance, ongoing efficiencies of operations, affordability, and optimally standardized process. Ensures coordinated and harmonious working relationships with the hospitals, medical foundation, medical groups, and physicians.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or equivalent.

  • Five (5) years clinical laboratory management experience including work in a complex multi healthcare system or reference lab.

  • Niine (9) years clinical experience in relevant area of responsibility.

  • Must have experience working with a large pathology group(s).

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist license - CA Department of Public Health.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree: MS, MBA, MPH or equivalent.

  • National Registry or Certification in laboratory medicine is preferred.

  • Business Development experience with running reference laboratory.

Essential Functions

  • Key Accountabilities Directs and manages the Reference Laboratory Services for Sharp HealthCare.Ensures Reference Laboratory Services procedures/systems are functioning at optimal levels and evaluates processes regularly for continuous improvement.Develops routine, effective planning and communication for the reference laboratory management team and staff.Develops harmonious, customer-focused, working relationships and communication with the leadership team and Medical Group Leadership and the various entity medical staff members and/or reference Laboratory Service Medical Director.When appropriate, coordinates with leadership team the changes in the operations and create state-of-the-art functions that will result in improvement quality and/or greater cost effectiveness.Strives for aggressive standardization in the areas of processes, supplies, equipment, and service agreements that will result in cost savings as well as continue to meet satisfaction levels of customers.Fiscally manages all departments within the allotted resources.Collaborates with other directors, program managers and departments to ensure continued entity and system collaboration and support.Accountable for coordinating the ongoing development and productivity of designated work units and for maintaining the quality of care within those work units and or programs.Manages contract services, and/or outside relationships relating to daily operations.Overall operations management inclusive of responsibilities in cost management, quality of services delivered, employee and resource management and total care delivery.Exhibits vast knowledge and comprehension of current matters related to healthcare business management, including Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement, performance management, and financial analysis.

  • Quality Continually monitors quality of services provided and effectively initiates changes as needed.Ensures that all Reference Laboratory Services are in compliance with CMS, CAP and Title 17, facility administrative and/or medical staff policies and any other regulatory agency or facility requirement.Coordinates the Reference Laboratory activities related to CAP and CDPH accreditation, maintaining a standard approach to accreditation survey.Supports and coordinates Reference Laboratory activities related to the laboratory Internal Audit Program to ensure regulatory compliance and safe laboratory practice.Develops and implements policies related to safe laboratory practice such as handling of biohazard and chemical storage and waste.Identifies and confronts issues that affect quality of service and/or patient care to achieve zero defects and zero harm.Collaborates with physicians, administration, medical groups, peers and staff to resolve issues or concerns in an appropriate and timely fashion.Establishes specific quality goals, connecting the vision to the necessary actions and long-term strategies.Provides routine and ad hoc reports as needed to physicians, administration, medical groups and staff.Keeps abreast of new developments, technology and practices within areas of responsibility.Ensures the timely collection, entry, submission of data, continued participation in existing databases, and ad hoc focused reviews.Ensures the timely completion of data submission to all regulatory agencies specific to areas of responsibility.Ensure HIPPA mandates are followed by personnel.

  • Safety Collaborates with managers, directors and senior specialists to decrease occurrences of unsafe work practices and/or worker’s injuries as part of Sharp’s HRO initiatives.Works collaboratively with lab leadership to meet and maintain the goals for survey responses including Culture of Safety and Employee Engagement surveys in order to measure Sharp’s progress towards becoming a HRO for employee and patient safety.Active member of the Quality Council.

  • Finance Ensures cost effective operation of the Reference laboratories.Coordinates effective routine monitoring and reporting systems for operating budgets and productivity.Ensures corrective action plans are implemented promptly to address activities related to budget development (capital and operational).Identifies and implements cost savings initiatives for Reference Laboratory.Implements routine tracking and monitoring systems to ensure identified cost savings are achieved.

  • Growth Provides strategic planning and implementation of new and or expanded programs and services.Actively completes RFI requests to ensure continued contractual arrangement where necessary within the scope of responsibility.Maintains ongoing analysis of service line performance and maintains trends and opportunities.Incorporates knowledge of external factors and healthcare policies that affect reimbursement for services.

  • Community Develops a department culture of community citizenship; promotes and role-model involvement in organizational community benefit programs and outreach.

  • DELEGATION OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Responsibilities and duties, including specimen processing, preventive maintenance, test performance, report processing, performed under the direct supervision of a technical consultant or laboratory director, according to the above performance standards, are delegated to by the laboratory medical director.
