Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$65.550 - $84.580 - $103.611

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

The Manager of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for the management and development of the Quality Department staff, coordinating an efficient and effective adverse event reporting and risk reduction plan, managing the physician peer review process and coordinating of data management, analysis and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in healthcare related field or business.

  • 3 years' experience in Leadership role.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in performance improvement.

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) - National Association for Healthcare Quality.

  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) - Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety.

Other Qualification Requirements

  • ASHRM certification preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Manages Quality Department StaffProvides coaching, feedback, mentorship and professional development.Sets individual goals and conducts performance appraisals.Prioritizes and manages the distribution of workload, and manages schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.Communicates organizational updates and represents Quality Dept staff at entity and system meetings.Creates standard work for department and leads department continuous improvement activities.Demonstrates problem solving, leadership, conflict management, and team building skills in order to ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals.

  • Coordinates Adverse Event Reporting and Risk Reduction TacticsManages the incident reporting system and creates systems to ensure optimal event classification and follow-up.Manages the RCA and FMEA processes.Represents entity at system adverse event related committees and communicates plans and decisions.

  • Manages Physician Peer Review ProcessEnsures the efficiency of physician peer review processes.Produces meaningful reports to evaluate the effectiveness of the peer review program.Coordinates the integration of performance improvement processes with medical staff leadership to review and improve overall patient care outcomes.

  • Coordinates Data Collection, Analysis and Report Production and DistributionReviews all reports and dashboards to ensure they are accurate, meaningful and actionable.Facilitates the use of statistical process tools, process improvement and problem solving through Lean Six Sigma methodologies for continuous improvement and all care and services provided.Collaborates with HIM, Coding Dept, and CDI to ensure the timely review of fallout cases.In collaboration with the SHC Clinical Analytics department, actively supports customers in identifying, obtaining, analyzing and using information to support clinical quality monitoring and improvement activities.Ensures appropriate inter-rater reliability processes are conducted.

  • Serves as a Resource and Mentor to Internal Staff and Departmental Customers for Clinical AnalyticsRole models data management skills including acquiring, validating, storing, securing and interpreting data and applying statistical methods in order to transform data into valuable, actionable information.Responsible for overseeing physician cost, quality, and utilization reporting. Partners with SHC Clinical Analytics, CMO and CDI department regarding development and use of physician-based analytics.

  • LeadershipBuilds relationships and rounds consistently with management, quality staff, clinical staff, and other healthcare team members to facilitate outcomes.Mentors others for role based competence.Enhances own professional growth through self-evaluation and setting and meeting own developmental goals.Maintains and builds knowledge base and expertise related to responsibilities through professional literature, networking, and attending appropriate workshops.Advances quality and patient safety through participation in professional organizations, publications, and presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates Proficiency Level 1 of NAHQ Healthcare Quality Professional Competencies.

  • Demonstrated management and interpersonal skills necessary to select, manage, and develop staff.

  • Capable of setting priorities and working under pressure.

  • Must be results and outcomes oriented.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements for CMS, Title 22 and JCC.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Cerner EHR, Crimson Continuum of Care, and other computer applications.

  • Proficient in Lean Six Sigma and Change Management tools and techniques.
