Google Product Design Engineer, Pixel Watch in San Diego, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 year of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.

  • 1 year of experience using computer-aided design tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field.

  • 3 years of experience in consumer product design.

  • Experience shipping multiple consumer products.

  • Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing, final assembly, and onsite factory support.

  • Experience with system integration and electro-mechanical components (e.g., audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.

As an Engineering Designer, you leverage your strong technical background and understanding of "good" design to look for ways to streamline the user experience. You work closely with the product managers and development engineers throughout the entire production cycle. You design everything from high-level product flow to detailed UI mockups and then use your expert scripting skills to make your designs a reality.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Design a subsystem or multiple individual parts from concept to production.

  • Collaborate with suppliers of subsystems or separate parts throughout the design and manufacturing process.

  • Identify the root cause of design, manufacturing, or reliability issues, and develop corrective actions.

  • Travel internationally to engineering builds to oversee mechanical validation, design, and assembly as needed.

  • Balance design considerations (e.g., functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and aesthetics).
