U.S. Mint MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in San Francisco, California
Summary This position is in the Plant Engineering Division, Facility Engineering and Maintenance Branch at the US Mint, San Francisco, CA. The incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs building structures, fixtures, equipment, plant heating, steam, hot and cold water, gas distribution, compressed air, ventilation, and drainage systems employing such trade skills as plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, pipefitting, boiler operations, sheet metal working, welding, and other related trades. Responsibilities As a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, you will: Install, modify, or repair high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generators, hot water and hydraulic systems, radiators, and vacuum pumps, condensate pumps, and circulating pumps. Plan routing, placement and pitch; determine proper valve, pressurizing regulators, and expansion joints; install braces and support to control movement and vibration, allowing for expansion and contraction. Fabricate, install and maintain sheet metal equipment and fixtures such as machine guards, shelves, coin stands, ventilators, chutes, bulkheads, ducts, metal roofing, flashing, and hoppers. Work involves design, layout, set up, and the utilization of a variety of equipment and hand tools such as drill press, hand braker, hand nibler, squares, and shears. Perform oxyacetylene, gas carbon-arc. Tig arc, and heliarc welding, brazing, soft and silver soldering, flame and arc burning and cutting to fabricate, maintain and repair a variety of items such as piping, tubing, machine parts, and structures. Weld such metals as aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron, bronze, brass, copper and various alloys including dissimilar metals such as brass to steel, black iron to stainless steel, and galvanized steel to black iron. Erect, alter, repair or remove interior walls and partitions of various composition, such as wood and metal studding and bracing, sheetrock, wood and other paneling materials. Install, repair or replace wood and metal window framing, doors, door jams, baseboards, molding, transoms, and panels. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
