Uber Manager II, Engineering in San Francisco, California

About the Role

Uber Delivery includes our Uber Eats, Grocery, and Retail products, where we focus on getting goods from a merchant to a customer. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager II to join Uber Delivery and lead a team of Engineers.

This org owns serving and indexing within our search and discovery experience, supporting multiple data retrieval methods from Lucene based search to exact-match queries and more. We focus on inventing new and exciting ways to help customers find the products they want within our ever growing catalog which requires understanding the customer needs and building a highly performant backend to support these use cases.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  • Lead an engineering team to deliver product features to customers with measurable impact.

  • Drive the right technical decisions for the team with a clear view on tradeoffs.

  • Enable productivity and velocity of an engineering team.

  • Manage performance of individual engineers, providing coaching and real time feedback.

  • Partner with internal customers on product and technical requirements to build the right solutions with minimal overhead.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering field (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology etc.)

  • 5+ years experience as a software engineer and 2+ years full time management experience

  • Experience leading engineering projects from planning through review stages

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to encourage and empower a diverse team.

  • Hands on expertise in career development, mentorship, performance expectations, and conflict resolution

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  • Experience with Lucene-based search technologies a strong plus (eg, ElasticSearch, OpenSearch)

  • Experience building and working with big data pipelines (both batch and streaming)

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
