Payroll Specialist

Purpose

The Payroll Specialist supports a wide variety of payroll-related activities. This position requires strong knowledge of payroll processing, including applicable state and local laws. The individual filling this position must have excellent attention to detail, solid communication, customer service, and organizational skills. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to handle confidential information with the highest level of integrity. This Payroll Specialist will help develop and drive consistency across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for 900+ employees, including union and nonunion.

  • Perform a variety of payroll activities including timecard review and entry, payroll reporting, check printing & direct deposit notices.

  • Creates & maintains employee records, ensures accuracy of data.

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and process off-cycle checks, including retroactive pay increases, final paychecks, and corrections.

  • Process involuntary deductions such as wage levies or garnishments. Calculate and deduct from employees’ wages in accordance with the order.

  • Update employee payroll records by entering changes to tax status and employee direct deposit information.

  • Compile and submit certified payroll process.

  • Compile and submit monthly union fringe reporting and payments.

  • Respond to requests for employment verifications.

  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.

  • Support the implementation of payroll-related initiatives and projects.

  • Be aware of, comply with and enforce all Company policies.

  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.

  • 5 to 7 years of payroll experience, preferably in electrical contracting or related industry.

  • Strong understanding of union payroll procedures & contract requirements.

  • Experience with Spectrum Payroll module strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state(s) wage and tax laws, and compliance regulations surrounding payroll.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to function and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to prioritize and solve problems.

  • Proven ability to treat information with the utmost confidentiality.

  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service in a professional and tactful manner.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
