  • A minimum of two years of experience as a police first-line supervisor (Sergeant or equivalent).

  • Holds an Advanced T.C.O.L.E. Peace Officer certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.

  • Four years’ Experience as a first-line police supervisor.

  • Two years experience as a Sergeant with the Texas State University Police Department or Texas State University System.

  • Two years experience in a management position within a police department.

  • 80 hours of law enforcement leadership training (Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, FBI LEEDA , FBI Academy, etc.).

Job Description

The role involves supporting the Assistant Chief in administering, managing, and overseeing theUniversity Police Department (https://www.police.txst.edu/) . This includes providing basic police services aimed at reducing crime and enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. The position may also supervise various divisions such as parking, outreach and engagement, patrol, investigations, and administration.

Job Duties

  • Ensures the Assistant Chiefs are informed of any critical issues arising during the department’s daily operations.

  • Acts as a liaison with faculty, staff, and students regarding university, departmental administrative, and legislative issues impacting their department areas.

  • Reviews and updates the Assistant Chiefs on internal affairs cases and criminal investigations.

  • Participates in meetings with university personnel that could influence their command area.

  • Processes, evaluates, and circulates all incoming correspondence related to their command area.

  • Represents the Assistant Chiefs and serves as a contact for Civic and University Community Groups when necessary.

  • Prepares and oversees the budget for their designated areas.

  • Addresses complaints and supports internal affairs investigations.

  • Collaborates with other law enforcement agencies.

  • Oversees projects delegated by the Assistant Chiefs.

  • Executes all additional duties assigned by the Assistant Chiefs.

  • Oversees all aspects of parking operations.
